Holiday How-To: Wear SPARKLES ALL DECEMBER LONG

It’s the most SPARKLY time of the year! This time of year we are all looking forward to celebrating with friends and family, and with this season comes the perfect excuse to be able to wear all the glitter and sequins you want without worrying you’re blinding your co-workers at 9am!  I, for one, believe we should all try wearing sequins for more than just special occasions, and the holidays are a great excuse to give day-time sparkle a try.

If you’re ready to take advantage of this season’s eye-catching glitz, let’s talk about how to incorporate that shine into your wardrobe.

Okay so, this is probably my favorite way to pull off sequins in a casual manner.  As Amy Song, of Song of Style (above) is wearing, pulling distressed VS sparkle creates this unique harmony for an outfit.  When combining the urban vibe of distressed denim with the femininity if sequins is like a contrast made in style heaven.

Try it yourself with these adorable finds.

Another example of dialing down your sparkle, is to layer it with your fave cozy coat & basic tee.  Featured from Eat Sleep Wear, layering these stand out joggers in a laid back manner creates a cohesion that reads fun, but relaxed (even if you are in the middle of a breakdown because Anthropology sold out of those wine glasses you were getting for your mom this holiday) You’ll appear cool and collected throughout your holiday hustle!

Shop a similar look:

So if you’re picking up the vibe, it seems the key to pulling off your day-time shine is to pair it with items that combine casual with sophistication.  In this example from Ring My Bell, layering a denim style button down with a classic leather biker creates a juxtaposition of fabrics that makes this instant street style.

TIP:  instead of rocking heels, try sliding on your favorite casual sneakers or slides to bring this into an even more laid back look.

Give it a shot with these similar pieces:

Finally, if you’re not ready to take the plunge into a clothing item bringing in all that glitter, you can start by trying out some accessories!  They add a perfect pop of glitz and fun to an outfit!  Here are some I’ve had my eye on this year:

Embellished Double Knit Essential Beanie

studs. vans. satchel. phone case. glitter ball roller. pink phone case. backpack. embellished beanie. pouch. sneakers.

I hope these examples were inspiring for your holiday season!  Get out there and get sparkly, because there’s a lot to go around!

Happy Holidays!

3 Customizable Glitter Based Costumes!

As we are in the midst of October, living out best fall lives one special occasion approaches for the glitter-loving, sparkle-eyed girl: HALLOWEEN.  The perfect excuse (speaking form personal experience) to stand in a tub and dump glitter all over yourself that comes but once a year.

So I don’t want to break the bank for my costumes and I like to find real clothing items  that can be easily transformed into a costume rather than go to one of those overwhelming super Halloween stores and try on synthetic fabric until I can’t breathe.

So let’s get into this:  Here are just a few costume ideas to style yourself that will allow you to AMP UP your glitter factor!  The overall key to these outfits is find your “base” layer and build it up from there.

  1. Okay, obvious but true: THE UNICORN.

I know, it seems like a given but if there is one thing we all know about unicorns, they are a rare and unique creature.  That means you can basically customize your outfit to be the truest inner unicorn you can be.  From rainbow, to one color your options are endless. The key elements are to start with the base, which I show as a simple body-con dress, a majestic horn, a tutu, because when else can you wear a tutu….and add some GLITTER.

& yes, I’m wearing freaking flats on Halloween because let’s face it, no one handles the entire night well in heels & if you do……you’re lying but O.K.

Silver Unicorn Snot Body Gel, 1.7 oz.

(tutu: party city, Body Con dress is Forever 21, Shoes are Keds, ears literally ANY spirit Halloween, unicorn snot at Hallmark online or Tilly’s in store)

Once you have the base for this outfit down, you can start to go crazy with your body glitter!  You can use the Unicorn Snot for ALL of these costumes FYI and why wouldn’t you….Channel the inner child that used to love the Limited Too!! (comment if you loved that store because it was LIFE as a child for me)

2. THE GLITTERING ALIEN.

TBH very similar base as the unicorn.  The goal is to find something already shinny and embellish yourself into something brand new.

(Leggins on amazon, Top from Forever 21, and shoes Keds.  Add Antennas from any Halloween store or DIY some yourself with tin foil! )

Again, USE THE UNICORN SNOT!! The alien is super easy and comfy and warm for any outdoor activities too since you’ll be covered head to toe in shinning metallic clothing.

3.  SHINNY MERMAID

A classic go-to.  The mermaid is mystical and so are you when you wear scales and sequins.  So go for it.  You can mix up this outfit in various colors, and styles also if you check out amazon’s options for a legging style as well! Get creative!

Blue Unicorn Snot Body Gel, 1.7 oz.

(Skirt & top on Amazon, shell clip is ASOS but let’s be real you could def find this at you’re local A.C. Moore/Michael’s, shoes are vans)

So one more time, unicorn snot.  I am sure you can find body glitter gel at your local beauty shop or drug store, so grab it and COAT IT ON.  Literally this is the one night of the year where you will be allowed to leave a trail of glitter everywhere you go, so go big before you go home.

So I hope you guys enjoyed how I would style each of these outfits for Halloween & hope they were *~iNsPirIng~*  if you have yet to find your costume!

Comment if you like these ideas & share what other glitter-filled costumes you’ll be rocking this year!!

WTT Floating in Florals

Hey Everyone, it’s finally full on SPRING TIME.

I don’t know about you, but I have hung up my down jackets and shoved my winter blues into a dark place for the next few months.  Finally, it’s warm enough to rock those open toe booties you’ve been dying to break out since January.

With spring as any season comes trends, so it is time for another WTT!  Today I’ll be discussing something groundbreaking….florals. I know, right Miranda? Related image

Anyway, this season, it’s not just about adding a pop of flowery fun to your outfits, but rather about making your entire ensemble a growing garden. Let’s begin shall we?

Okay so, although the runways were beaming with bold, vibrant versions of this trend, you may be thinking, nah not for me.  Hang tight, because I do believe it is possible to pull this look into normal-person mode for the streets.

Here, Christina from The Boho Flow is totally rocking this trend.  The two piece she found is pulled together  and is not outrageous for a daily outting. The floral pattern doesn’t scream out too loudly, and she even managed to pull in a SECOND trend by layering those fishnets. YASS GIRL.

I’m a big fan of matching two piece outfits in general, so making them vibrant and covered in a pattern of sorts is basically demanding a chunk of my latest paycheck. Anyway, they’re super easy to navigate on days when my mind does not want to work too hard at finding an outfit, and they still look polished and complete. Anything to make a Monday morning run smoother, and I’m in.  So here, with the pant and jacket combination you can even pull off office-chic trendy any day of the week.

Natasha Goldenberg, Russian style icon and journalist brought this trend right down to the streets in her two piece suit attire.  This is also a great way to bring this fun vibe into a professional appearance, but will also make you stand out in a sea of black blazers.

Maybe we can’t all afford those pricey accessories that she’s toting along, but the center piece (lol get it….like a table flower center piece)  of the look keeps the trend spirit strong within us.

Let’s explore some more realistic styles to get shopping!

LuLu’s has this blue hued beauty set that is definitely wearable right away! You could even take a leather jacket (as see previously) and layer if it’s a bit too chilly for bearing all arms still.

aaaaa

Honestly, sometimes Forever 21 is worth taking a deep breath and browsing through.

Thank you for reading if you stuck with me through all those patterns and prints. General synopsis for those skim-readers: Florals are fun. ~*Spring into it*~

Puns are fun also.

WTT…Shoulder coats?

Okay, so some of you may agree with me, some of you may not.  Here is where we draw the line of two kinds of ladies in the world:

Those in favor of the wear-your-coat-on-your-shoulders-because-you-saw-Kim K-do-it-so clearly-you-have-to

AND

All those average normal ladies who can freaking appreciate the meaning of wearing-your-coat-like-a-human-should-because-its-*FFING-cold sometimes.

I know,I know, I know; we are going into the summer season, and don’t worry I have a thought for the latest summer trends as well, but can we please just talk about this for a hot second.  WHO in the freaking fashion billion dollar industry, decided it is cool & trendy to wear your billion dollar coat casually thrown about your shoulders as if you were too messed up or lazy to find it’s well sewn arm holes at 6:00pm on a Wednesday??

True, fashion sometimes is not all about practicality, and as an artist of sorts, I can support such matters, however this trend just grinds my north eastern jersey bred winter girl gears.  Have you even lived a full North Eastern Winter, NYFW goers? Have you?!…we are not known for the most romantic scenery of sorts anywhere from December-April/May.  So with that in mind, why on this earth are we not wearing our coats to their full potential?

Aimee, I love your style so so much and I admire your fashion blogging career, but would you honestly  not be more comfortable wearing your perfect coral leather jacket displaying the fit the way it was MADE to be worn? Like maybe you did put your arms in the holes after the camera shot this…I hope.

LITERALLY ^ this girl is wearing a fur layer under her exterior jacket layer.  That just sounds like a lot of effort no?
I just…don’t understand.

Finally, this trend has actually gone to the extend that somewhere out there a designer discovered they could make a jacket  *~appear~* as though the coat was draped ever so nonchalantly, and so the cape blazer was born.

I don’t know about you all, because this seems to have been a trend that set sail before I could climb on board the ship, but this trend is one I am hoping will not remain popular among the fashion forward community.

In the words of the famous Edna Mode, “NO CAPES.”

That is all.

What do you guys think? Are you team cape jacket, or are you team arms exist?  Let me know, real talk.

xxo,

Amanda
