WTT: UGLY SHOES ARE UGLY.

Welcome back to another edition of What The Trend!  Today We’re going to get right to it with a trend that has just been confusing the hell out of me for some time and I am ready to be brutally honest: UGLY SHOES. Honestly….why the F*!K are we calling these stylish?

I’m short on witty comments as my passion for disliking this “Trend” is raging, so let’s inspect, shall we?

The point where it all began:

I am positive you’ve all seen this by now, but am I really the only one wondering WTF Balenciaga was trying to achieve by calling this high fashion?  If you’re thinking I’m being a tad too harsh, go out an pay $850 for these over-sized gardening rubber soles and wear them on a date, or a night out, lemme know how it goes. Just don’t get jealous when you’re date and friends have cuter shoes than you.

The reality of this horror trend seems to be that they were created to make people look, and it worked.  We’re looking, we’re wondering, and now they should be properly disposed of ASAP.

@stadiumgoods

Sure, we live in a time where you are able to represent yourself however you please, and I’m all for the power of self-expression through style, however does anyone truly feel any kind of fabulous when they slip into these uber clunky disasters?

Like are they even supportive?

Screenshot (34)
@leilaemine

If you’re still like, but, its called “FaShUn” I for one cannot think of an ensemble that these compliment. Sure, comfort is playing a crucial role in clothing and style now, especially as the rise of athleisure is not goin’ no where (which that I can totally get on board with)  But these sneaks are not even workout worthy. And frankly, they don’t even look comfortable.

As far as I’m concerned these shoes feel like a social experiment proving the power of a designer’s brand name is stronger than style itself. And the theory worked, WE FELL FOR IT.

WHY stoop to this level?  TBH these feel like a waste of time, money and resources.  (oh right, they’re $820….a solid portion of  paying rent or ya know…living)

This trend needs to die off, and fast.

So before I continue on my rant against this attack on all things stylish and good in the world,  BURN. THESE. SHOES.

That is all.

Holiday How-To: Wear SPARKLES ALL DECEMBER LONG

It’s the most SPARKLY time of the year! This time of year we are all looking forward to celebrating with friends and family, and with this season comes the perfect excuse to be able to wear all the glitter and sequins you want without worrying you’re blinding your co-workers at 9am!  I, for one, believe we should all try wearing sequins for more than just special occasions, and the holidays are a great excuse to give day-time sparkle a try.

If you’re ready to take advantage of this season’s eye-catching glitz, let’s talk about how to incorporate that shine into your wardrobe.

Okay so, this is probably my favorite way to pull off sequins in a casual manner.  As Amy Song, of Song of Style (above) is wearing, pulling distressed VS sparkle creates this unique harmony for an outfit.  When combining the urban vibe of distressed denim with the femininity if sequins is like a contrast made in style heaven.

Try it yourself with these adorable finds.

Another example of dialing down your sparkle, is to layer it with your fave cozy coat & basic tee.  Featured from Eat Sleep Wear, layering these stand out joggers in a laid back manner creates a cohesion that reads fun, but relaxed (even if you are in the middle of a breakdown because Anthropology sold out of those wine glasses you were getting for your mom this holiday) You’ll appear cool and collected throughout your holiday hustle!

Shop a similar look:

So if you’re picking up the vibe, it seems the key to pulling off your day-time shine is to pair it with items that combine casual with sophistication.  In this example from Ring My Bell, layering a denim style button down with a classic leather biker creates a juxtaposition of fabrics that makes this instant street style.

TIP:  instead of rocking heels, try sliding on your favorite casual sneakers or slides to bring this into an even more laid back look.

Give it a shot with these similar pieces:

Finally, if you’re not ready to take the plunge into a clothing item bringing in all that glitter, you can start by trying out some accessories!  They add a perfect pop of glitz and fun to an outfit!  Here are some I’ve had my eye on this year:

Embellished Double Knit Essential Beanie

studs. vans. satchel. phone case. glitter ball roller. pink phone case. backpack. embellished beanie. pouch. sneakers.

I hope these examples were inspiring for your holiday season!  Get out there and get sparkly, because there’s a lot to go around!

Happy Holidays!

On The Real: What Happens to the Fashion?

Hey Everyone!  Welcome back to Eat Your Glitter!  If you’re new to the party, ✨Welcome Glitter shower for you! ✨

So Today I’m trying out a new segment for the blog called “On the Real”  For this, I’m here to break down some thoughts and particular mind pondering that sometimes we overlook, especially when it comes style!  And maybe you guys can join in the convo with your own insight!  Please do.

HERE—-> If you didn’t want to read the intro, I’m here to ask one question today:

WHAT THE F*!$  HAPPENS TO ALL THE CLOTHES THAT FASHION BLOGGERS WEAR?

The other day as I browsed my feed of style star bloggers, it got me thinking.  I noticed a fundamental element in which my personal life can not relate to.  No one is an outfit repeater!! HOW is this possible? Are they not human? Are they style Goddesses that dissolve fabric after wearing it ONE TIME?

To be fair, I completely understand the reasoning behind this, being that a style blogger’s entire job is to showcase new looks, keep their followers engaged and even represent a brand they are working with. But let’s bring this down into reality, their closets must be EXPLODING.  Where does it all go?!?!

Okay, so these are just 2 image examples, since I am sure you can all scroll through your Instagram feeds and see the point I’m making, but what kind of augmented reality is this?? Who has an endless closet with a clothing pattern that regenerates everyday?

I don’t know about you all, but even at an attempt to not repeat for a week or so, I’m tempted to reach for the comfort of my same black t-shirts and jean stash.

Call me lazy if you will but to that I say:

Image result for outfit repeater gif

If it isn’t broke why fix it, right?  Within our fashion fantasies of course we all dream of living the style lives of the elite influencers, but how realistic can this be?

For instance, if I like the way a dress looks, I’m definitely going to be rocking that dress on various occasions.  When it comes down to it, we define our style with our own point of view.  So even if you closet matches mine and looks like this:

tshirt-gif

Outfit repeating is normal.  Why should we hide it? Wear what you love, and what makes you feel like you!

If you have any gems of wisdom about the secret to style blogger’s, share a comment! If you just wanna chat, share a comment! And if you guys like this new type of post, lemme know and there will be more to come!

Amanda

WTT: Rose Colored Glasses On

Hey everyone! Welcome back to What The Trend!  If you’re new to this, intro: I’m Amanda, and we’re gonna talk about things that are trendy and gab like besties.  If you’ve been following, welcome back!

So let’s just get right into things.  This year, it seems like reminiscing about the 90’s has been a trend in and of itself.  Being a born and raised in the 90’s child myself, I can’t help but feel by nostalgic heartstrings tinge seeing pops of this style all around.  BUT one style from another era seems to have taken on the street style of 2017. COLOR tinted sunglasses.  Not to immediately diss these statement making accessories, I suppose I’ve just always took a more logical approach to eye wear.  I can’t help but picture watching “Billboard Dad” with a young Mary Kate and Ashley( a 1998 classic where the trend is also V prevalent to those days) sporting these trendy items and thinking to my 7 year old self….don’t their eyes hurt? Is everything changed to pink when you wear those?

Nonetheless, celebs and style experts alike are bringing this trend back to life.  Let’s open the portal to the past; the 70’s to 2017:

Image result for color tinted sunglasses hailey baldwin trend 2017

Okay so for starters, some of your fave celebrity icons from today have been rocking these in various shades.  Hailey Baldwin has been seen shading herself from the sun (get it, SHADE(s)…pun.)  in this trend and color coordinating it properly. A positive about this trend and what makes it appealing for me at least, is the opportunity to add even more vibrancy to a look with a minimal effort. Minimal effort in the summer heat, AND still looking cute to boot? I’m in.

As we take this away from the starlight of the celebrity life, back down to the streets in the sunlight, style expert Chronicles of Her amplifies her french girl chic vibe with a rose-colored tone.  She also explains in her post here, that she found a yellow pair at Ebay for just $2!! Affordable fashion? YES please!

Bringing this trend into a relate-able everyday look, style blogger Isabella Leyva shows how to work the yellow glow pairing it with yet a second trend with her sheer floral top. I love how she makes her style look like any one of us can look as adorable as she does.  She brought this trend back down to basic, which is exactly what I like to live for at Eat Your Glitter. Basic, but not boring!

Okay so after seeing this trend working in different situations, I think it is totally doable! BUT, I also think it’s not worth splurging half your paycheck on.  Let’s look into some more affordable options.

MIRROR-OR-TINTED-AVIATOR-STYLE-SUNGLASSES-MEN-WOMEN-NEW-LENS-FRAME-100-UVGuys, don’t discount Ebay.  It has the power to your cheap trends.  These are only $6.99!! And if you feel inspired by that $2 find I mentioned previously, I’m sure with some further diving you can find yourself a great deal at this site.  Shop them!

Ugh maybe I’m a sucker for a fun novelty item, but come on. These are PRIME summer vibes, and I found them on Amazon so pun #2 for this post!!  Although these could be for the more ambitious style seeker, they would be the talk of any pool party you attend this summer.  Luau theme anyone? Find them on Amazon for only $2.46!!

rose glasses

Looking for a more sophisticated shape? These are from the motherland of surprising fashion finds, Target.  They are $16.99 which seems steep compared to those amazon finds, but they are slightly more refined in style if you’re looking for a more subtle try at the trend.

So, What The Trend do we think? I’m Sold.  Especially after finding this trend for super affordable prices, I am all in for rocking color tinted eye wear adding a super fun, and bold statement to your looks!  I would even venture to say I wouldn’t need to wear concealer to hide my under eye bags because they will be all ~*jazzed~* up through the magic of color.

I hope you enjoyed this edition of WTT! I’ll be keeping an extra EYE out for more! (I did it, 3 puns, 3 strikes, I’m outta here 😉 )

xxo,

Amanda

WTT Why is Everyone Almost Naked?

Hello Everyone! Happy Summer! It is finally hot and steamy, just how I like it around here. With the heat comes new summer styles, so it’s time for another What The Trend!

Okay so, I totally understand when that humid sticky weather rolls in it can be tempting to walk around with little to the imagination when it comes to clothing.  However, it seems as though nowadays we are taking this to a new level—enter the sheer clothing trend.

kendall jenner met gala 2017

Here.  This is the dress that really got me thinking about this trend.  Although extreme, the sheer looks have been represented on many red carpets lately by the “naked dress”.  (See Kendall Jenner and her peachy bottom above at this years MET Gala)

So, thing #1: ….How the F is this trend going to translate to us normal people who don’t have time to double stick tape the shit out of themselves every day to keep things in place?

Thing #2: I kind of miss the element of surprise of what lies beneath it all.  Sure, this is 2017 and we are all here to back up body positive vibes.  You do you, ladies.  However, in day to day street wear how is this trend going to hold up to the public eye without looking like we forgot to wear an undergarment?

Let’s take a further look!

Embroidered Black Sheer Maxi Dress By Dallastyle Blog

Above, DallasStyle Blog strategically placed a pair of cropped jeans under her lacy and sheer dress.  TBH, I love this look. I know wearing jeans in the summer is not ideal, however I do think the basics of the outfit work perfectly bringing in the trend without having anything else pop out.  The essential layering gives you opportunities to express yourself with what you already own in your style closet.

How to Be Naked in Summer CNDirect Sheer Top|Missguided Bralet(similar)|Vintage Gap Shorts(similar)|Missguided Heels(similar)Forever21 Cuff(similar)Vintage Backpack Neon Fox

Also, to bring this look into the warm summer months that we are currently hitting, swap out jeans for cut-offs and you are good to go! Here,  Neon Fox brought a similar concept, that you don’t really think twice as she crosses you on the street wearing a see-through top.  I think that really is the key to this trend, balancing the eye catching element with casual chic vibes.

Okay so, feeling a little inspired? Let’s do some shopping!

For a trend like this, I think it’s wise not to dump your hard earned paychecks on one item, so you can snag these looks for less at your average Forever 21 and jazz them up with what you already own.  Explore the discount stores.  They are perfect for fleeting trends that you want to wear ASAP but not for long term commitment.

You can get this ballet-inspired version with this super cute skirt from Charlotte Ruse, and it won’t break your bank account or your heart when you need to look the part for that perfect date night outfit.

Overall, I think this trend is totally doable!  We don’t need to be a Kardashian to rock the naked to the eye sheer trend, and you can bring your own style twist with all the layering possibilities! Imagine.  Get out there and show the streets what you got. (Literally.)

xxo,

Amanda

WTT Floating in Florals

Hey Everyone, it’s finally full on SPRING TIME.

I don’t know about you, but I have hung up my down jackets and shoved my winter blues into a dark place for the next few months.  Finally, it’s warm enough to rock those open toe booties you’ve been dying to break out since January.

With spring as any season comes trends, so it is time for another WTT!  Today I’ll be discussing something groundbreaking….florals. I know, right Miranda? Related image

Anyway, this season, it’s not just about adding a pop of flowery fun to your outfits, but rather about making your entire ensemble a growing garden. Let’s begin shall we?

Okay so, although the runways were beaming with bold, vibrant versions of this trend, you may be thinking, nah not for me.  Hang tight, because I do believe it is possible to pull this look into normal-person mode for the streets.

Here, Christina from The Boho Flow is totally rocking this trend.  The two piece she found is pulled together  and is not outrageous for a daily outting. The floral pattern doesn’t scream out too loudly, and she even managed to pull in a SECOND trend by layering those fishnets. YASS GIRL.

I’m a big fan of matching two piece outfits in general, so making them vibrant and covered in a pattern of sorts is basically demanding a chunk of my latest paycheck. Anyway, they’re super easy to navigate on days when my mind does not want to work too hard at finding an outfit, and they still look polished and complete. Anything to make a Monday morning run smoother, and I’m in.  So here, with the pant and jacket combination you can even pull off office-chic trendy any day of the week.

ESC: New York Fashion Week, Street Style

Natasha Goldenberg, Russian style icon and journalist brought this trend right down to the streets in her two piece suit attire.  This is also a great way to bring this fun vibe into a professional appearance, but will also make you stand out in a sea of black blazers.

Maybe we can’t all afford those pricey accessories that she’s toting along, but the center piece (lol get it….like a table flower center piece)  of the look keeps the trend spirit strong within us.

Let’s explore some more realistic styles to get shopping!

LuLu’s has this blue hued beauty set that is definitely wearable right away! You could even take a leather jacket (as see previously) and layer if it’s a bit too chilly for bearing all arms still.

Be a boss babe in this suit from ASOS.

aaaaa

Honestly, sometimes Forever 21 is worth taking a deep breath and browsing through.

Thank you for reading if you stuck with me through all those patterns and prints. General synopsis for those skim-readers: Florals are fun. ~*Spring into it*~

Puns are fun also.

WTT White Jeans in the Winter?

Welcome back to What The Trend!  I know it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted, but what better time to reconnect with old friends than around the holidays?!

So today’s topic is something that I have been noticing that has been breaking the fashion rules. Wearing white jeans in the winter.  So like any fashion loving styling abiding citizen, my initial reaction to seeing this was “WHATTT in the style world are you doing! The style gods are shunning you!…..or are they?”  After letting this trend settle in, my eyes adjusted.  Seeing many bloggers and style icons pull of this look with a classic pair of OTK boots, my style rule book readjusted.

Image result for white jeans over the knee boots

Check out this babe rocking winter white like a pro!  Winter white can be one of the hardest looks to pull off.  I believe this look takes some serious pre-planning.  Finding just the right shade of white to complement the outfit is the key to this trend.

Image result for white jeans over the knee boots

Blogger, Sydne Style, is rocking this look.  The monochrome blend of black and white becomes a classic look rather than an off season faux pas!

And finally A Southern Drawl blogger, Grace Wainwright, found the perfect shade of suade to pair with this transitional look into the colder months.

Feeling style inspired? Me too, until I attempted this look and felt my fashion genes (see what I did there? 😉 ) had betrayed all my trendy knows.

So, if you are thinking of attempting this trend, here are my final tips on rocking the winter white jean:

  1. Find the Perfect white jean for YOU.  Finding jeans can already be a daunting process so if you don’t already own a pair that you know look killer on you, maybe this trend isn’t worth spending the money on the 2-3 times you may be wearing it this winter.
  2. TRY IT ON BEFORE you are rushing around with 5 minutes in the morning and decide this is the time to explore your trend setter side.  This could lead to panic and late Monday morning havoc.
  3. If you don’t have the pairings, this look could easily look like a mistake.  Tall boots, suede materials, a cozy sweater are all things that pull this look into a winter vibe.  Without these things put together, the jeans will stand out and begin to look out of season, making the style gods right….and I sure hate when other people are right.
  4. Have fun & follow your inspiration!  If you see a blogger, friend or style icon rock this trend follow what they do! Observe how they pulled the look together and then compare it to your own closet.  If you don’t own those excessively expensive Stewart Weitzman OTK boots, don’t kill yourself forcing the trend.

Okay so to sum things up, this trend is a style RISK!  I am all for supporting breaking the style rules, but be true to you and your closet!  I can say as a babe on a budget that this one isn’t worth breaking the bank for.

So, if the jeans fit, rock ’em!

xxo,

Amanda

STYLE SEARCH project NYC

“I’m quite girly.”

Hey Everyone!! I  know it’s bee a while since we’ve caught up.  So I’ve been working super hard on a project for my Design class while being back in school. Our assignment is to design a 20 page book and I’m SO SO excited about this project, I might just even make this a monthly thing! It’s really interesting getting so many diverse answers from the public on personal style.  I decided for my book that I wanted to explore what people wear and why they wear it.  I decided to venture into NYC and ask some people a few questions about their outfits! I asked each stranger the same 5 questions after approaching them.

  1. What are you wearing and why are you wearing that today?
  2. What do you like best about your look?
  3. If you could change anything about your look, what would you change?
  4. What influences your style?
  5. Describe your personal style in a few words.

People seem to be quite happy about having their looks photographed by a strange girl wandering around, so I figured it would be fun to share some of the looks on here!  I illustrated each image myself depending on the answers provided by each person.  It took A LOT of time and effort and it’s still a work in progress, so if you like these images PLEASE link it back to the blog or www.eatyourglitter.com
